Graphic design is basically collage — but to build that collage, you need the right Lego bricks: your color palette, type choices, grid, photography style, textures… all of it counts.
These pieces aren’t just decoration — they’re how the work speaks.
Gothic Weirdo
TypefaceDesign
I made a typeface based on analyzing another type of family.
I named it Gothic Weirdo.
This was the best design experience I have ever had using a modularized working process.
The first stage was analyzing the modularity of a typeface. Parameters I considered were scale, point, line, shape, object, axis, width, counter form, and variation.
The second stage was creating compositions and combining all my previous visual explorations into a poster and a specimen book.

Type Specimen
I didn’t follow the traditional type specimen because it lacked dynamic movement. At least it didn’t work for my Gothic Weirdo.
For this poster, I wanted to create the feeling of being fragile. The typeface I made is definitely not a popular one. It’s a type that people need time to comprehend. It’s a marginal type but it still contains its own beauty. The sharp edge on it seems dangerous and violent but it has an aesthetic movement of its own.
